Part Time Information Services Assistant

Description:

The Norton Public Library is seeking a friendly, helpful customer-service oriented employee to assist with Reference and Adult Services and other duties as needed. This is a benefitted part-time paraprofessional position and reports to the Assistant Director under the supervision of the Library Director.

Position is 20 hours per week and includes evening hours and a Saturday rotation

Qualifications: 

• friendly, helpful, customer-service oriented
• excellent public service skills and a genuine enjoyment for working with patrons of diverse backgrounds and with a wide variety of needs and abilities
• requires knowledge of basic reference sources; previous experience with an automated library circulation system; demonstrated knowledge of computers, including Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, and email; knowledge of electronic databases and the Internet
• prior experience with, or ability to master, social media marketing, various desktop and web-based software, recording equipment and other technology
• able to communicate effectively with staff and members of the public in a courteous and tactful manner
• comfortable working with computers and current technology
• willing and able to learn new library procedures and practices
• personal responsibility and a patient and friendly temperament
• accuracy and attention to detail, punctual and discreet
• able to understand and follow written and oral directions
• maintains confidentiality of patron records and other sensitive information
• physical ability to lift, retrieve, sort, push carts, and shelve materials at high and low levels
• manual dexterity needed for keyboarding and other repetitive tasks
• vision must be good or corrected to normal to perform job duties
• able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment and be at ease with interruptions
• must be flexible in order to adjust to workload and library schedule
• dependable and a team player


Education Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of skills and experience

Salary: $20/hr.
