Part Time Library Technician II

Description:

Under general supervision from the Library Director and/or Patron Services Supervisor, the Library Technician II is responsible for providing general circulation services to the public in a courteous manner and in accordance with Library policies and procedures. Duties include library work of a technical and routine nature requiring knowledge of existing policies and procedures, good judgment and common sense. Circulation duties require constant interaction with library patrons, in person, and over the telephone, and require excellent customer service skills. The Library Technician II also performs some specialized collection maintenance tasks that require attention to detail and accuracy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Staffing the Circulation Desk as needed, greeting and assisting patrons employing effective customer service skills.
· Performing all Circulation Desk functions, including: check-in, check-out and renewals; informing Library patrons of the status of their Library records; collecting overdue fines and other fees; processing applications for, and issuing, new Library cards; assisting Library patrons in locating information, answering readers’ advisory questions and retrieving Library materials in all formats; fielding requests for new acquisitions and Interlibrary Loans; notifying Library patrons of materials being held for them; removing unclaimed holds; emptying book-drop throughout shift.
· Receiving phone calls, and assists or transfers calls as necessary.
· Performing Library opening and closing procedures.
· Assisting in seeing that Library rules of conduct are observed by asking Library patrons to observe rules of conduct that are not being followed, and by informing Library administration when necessary.
· Processing overdue notices, including contacting borrowers by phone. · Processing interlibrary loan requests.
· Maintaining periodical collection by recording incoming magazines, alerting Library Director to subscription problems.
· Some supervision in the absence of the Library Director/Assistant Director.
Schedule includes mornings, evenings and two Saturday per month. 19 hours per week; may include additional hours as needed.


Qualifications: 

Previous public library experience and a two-year college degree are preferred and have a demonstrated ability to work well with the public and in a team environment. Reliability, maturity, flexibility, a warm and friendly demeanor, and a willingness to offer superior customer service are required. Ability to lift materials weighing up to 40lbs is necessary. Proficiency with computer programs, including word processing and e-mail, is essential.


Education Required: BA/BS

Salary: $18.35/hr
