Whatever your reader needs are, the SAILS Online Catalog has the tools to help you find your latest and greatest read!
Of Interest to Readers
The “Of Interest to Readers” tab is a great feature on the SAILS Online Catalog that allows you to find great read-alike recommendations based on that last book you fell in love with.
Type in the name of that last title you enjoyed. From the search results list, click on the title you’d like a readalike for. (Note: The “Of Interest to Readers” tab only appears on physical materials, so EBOOK and EAUDIO items won’t show you read-alike options.)
Once you have the item entry pulled up, you should see the tab “Of Interest to Readers.” Click on it.
The “Of Interest to Readers” tab features a range of information that can include:
- Information about the book and/or series
- More books by the author
- Read-alikes with active links to their listings in our catalog
- Librarian lists where this book appears
- Professional reviews and book awards
- Tags with active links that will pull up more books to browse
Limit Search Results
Whether you choose to do your own subject/genre search or use the Fiction Finder (see below) to do it for you, you can further narrow down your search for the perfect read through the “Limit Search Results” filters.
The “Limit Search Results” pane is a great way to narrow results to a particular library, format, or age range. You can also use the Subject filters to look for sub-genres or topics that you’d like to see. For example, maybe you click on the Fantasy block of the Fiction Finder (see below).
Doing that will bring up a huge list of books that all fall under the genre of fantasy. But maybe what you’re really looking for is a fantasy book with dragons and epic battles. Under the “Subject” filter, we can select the following to find books that further fall into those interests.
You can also use the tabs across the top of the search results to look only at specific formats!
“For Readers”
While on the homepage of our online catalog, look for the “For Readers” link. You can usually find it in one of the columns to the side.
Clicking this link will bring you to a page filled with additional links and information, including popular titles across the SAILS Library Network and the Fiction Finders!
What’s a Fiction Finder? It’s a quick, easy way to do a genre search. Clicking any of the blocks will take you to a listing of all books in the SAILS Library Network that fall under that category.
